Here are my boys starting the day with their play and bonding time in the couch. I love that as busy as the hubby is, he takes time to play and spend time with our little guy. Precious moments. :-)

Learning Photography
| January 21, 2010 | 12:17 pm | basic photography | 1 Comment

People in general will agree with me when I say that babies and children are two of the most endearing and appealing subjects for photography. My Project 365 entries will prove just that. I am a parent and it is just inevitable that I take pictures of my son, who I’m obviously very fond of.

It is a delight to be able to capture in photos the emotions and innocence of a child. In all honesty I used to take pictures of my son without really taking into account the quality of the pictures that I take. That is what I hope to grow up from. Balance. It would be a total waste of owning a DSLR, albeit the entry level type, if I do not learn how to take better pictures.

A parent will gush over their children’s photos with delight regardless of the quality of their pictures. Never mind if pictures are totally out of focus. Although I can fully understand where they are coming from, I am hoping to take a step back and learn photography so I could finally gush over how I am finally able to do justice to the subject.

It is our Uncle Gilbert’s 48th birthday. Uncle Gilbert is my mom’s youngest brother who is mentally challenged. We had pizza for lunch today and later tonight we’re going to do some more feasting with the rest of the family. This is what’s nice when you have relatives for neighbors. This basically means a no cook day for me! Yey! Just the kind of break that I need. Happy birthday, Uncle Gilbert! :D

Composition fail. This is definitely what I concluded almost instantly when I saw this shot. Last night must have been the perfect chance to take great shots as I was in the Intercontinental Hotel for the SMilDS event.  I was tweaking the setting much and I could not get the hang of it. Got frustrated so I switched to Auto mode. Bad. :-(

18/365: Hopscotch

We did hopscotch for our physical activity today in our homeschool class. My little guy had fun as he tries to get expert at hopping from one level to the other, switching from a single foot to both feet and back again.

This is not the photo entry I had in mind but because I was pressed for time and with the clock ticking away to another day, I searched for the shots I took during today’s homeschool class and I had the hubby choose for me.  He picked this shot and said, more than just the composition and all the other things you factor in when it comes to hardcore photography, this might not be spectacular, all right.  But the essence is the story behind the picture and he thought, I captured it enough.

Oftentimes, I just go by doing this Project 365 without really giving much thought to my shots. I really wish I had the luxury of time. But I don’t. So here is another failed attempt at a portraiture shot. I used Aperture priority. The hubby said I should have widened the Aperture to allow more light in. Because I failed to do just that, the shot focused on my little guy’s hand. Ack! I am such a slow learner of photography.

I took this shot of my jiggly kefir babies, October 2009. I was pleasantly surprised of how much they multiplied when I fermented them using goat’s milk. I credit my family’s good health to this ultra powerful probiotic. :-)

More PhotoHunt entries here.

One of my many frustrations in photography is taking portraiture shots. Today, we celebrated with a friend her 34th birthday and with all the shots I took, there was none that would pass for a good one. Learning photography can be challenging, really, and so is this project 365. I’m sure some days (like this, for instance) I will disappoint myself over again. But I.am.not.giving.up. :-)

DSC_7427

This Project 365 is beginning to be a challenge for me.   Suffice it to say, I am lacking inspiration because of a packed schedule I have throughout the day.  I was relieved to get “locked” on my laptop lock for today’s subject, after trying three other far less interesting ones.  I hope to do better the coming days. :-)

Not very healthy, I know, to deserve its second appearance for the week. I still had the marinated pork in the freezer, I thought I might as well cook it. :-P
