Snapshots vs. Portraits

Before digital imaging hcame, we were all freely snapping our shutters away. Snapshots make for a huge collection of a family’s memorabilia. Although everyone will agree with me when I say that a snapshot’s quality may not be as good as that of a thought of and well-composed portrait. Portraiture requires effort, snapshots don’t. That’s the bottomline.

67/365: Summer

It has been pretty sauna like these past days. The heat can easily send you to exhaustion in a heartbeat. Working has become unbelievably unbearable, it’s like my brain is heading towards meltdown. Seriously. I feel exhausted midday when I haven’t even started with my online tasks just yet.

Here is a quick fix to our summer days here in Manila. Going to the clubhouse is not very convenient so what we do is have the little guy play in this inflatable pool, which by the way has been inflated since typhoon Ondoy. We didn’t bother to deflate it after and now that summer is on the roll, it is now doing its job. :-)

I used Canon Powershot A3100 IS to take this photo. DSLR was with a friend. :-)

As you might have noticed, my favorite subject to shoot is my unico hijo. You can’t really blame me. Aside from my love of capturing moments, I’m also my son’s primary caregiver. We also homeschool together. He’s really got no way out. But the usual issue about taking photos of children, if they have so gotten used to it, that they almost dread when they see you reach out for your digital camera. Because then, they’ll know what will come next.

Running late again. It was almost 12 midnight when I realized I still have not done my Project 365 entry for today. It was good that I did take some careless shots of my son this morning as he was looking at the window mesmerized over the air particles that he saw as the sun shone through our bedroom window. :-)

Here are my boys starting the day with their play and bonding time in the couch. I love that as busy as the hubby is, he takes time to play and spend time with our little guy. Precious moments. :-)

Oftentimes, I just go by doing this Project 365 without really giving much thought to my shots. I really wish I had the luxury of time. But I don’t. So here is another failed attempt at a portraiture shot. I used Aperture priority. The hubby said I should have widened the Aperture to allow more light in. Because I failed to do just that, the shot focused on my little guy’s hand. Ack! I am such a slow learner of photography.

One of my many frustrations in photography is taking portraiture shots. Today, we celebrated with a friend her 34th birthday and with all the shots I took, there was none that would pass for a good one. Learning photography can be challenging, really, and so is this project 365. I’m sure some days (like this, for instance) I will disappoint myself over again. But I.am.not.giving.up. :-)
